Yoshi's Island: Really, the game was chock-full of bosses that broke the conventions of what bosses in 2D platformers could be at the time. Occasionally the game shattered your preconceptions, as with Raphael Raven. It might not look like much, but a boss arena being a complete sphere where you had to use the terrain to defeat the boss was genuinely groundbreaking back in 1995 and remains awesome today. And incredibly fun too, if you didn't get dizzy... Blue Yoshi: "If you go to space yourself someday, remember this battle, little Mario."
